26th July 2010 - LRC meeting on Otis Lifts dispute tomorrow
Technical Engineering and Electrical Union representatives, including the union’s Assistant General Secretary Arthur Hall, are to attend talks at the Labour Relations Commission tomorrow at 2.30pm over the Otis Lifts dispute.
There has been a significant increase in breakdowns reported since the dispute began on July 2nd. The dispute is over the sacking of 17 lift engineers on June 26th by Otis Lifts.
The Labour Court issued a Recommendation on May 21st detailing how redundancies should be implemented at the company. The union deferred industrial action for a week to facilitate talks but these proved futile. The current talks are taking place after the renewed intervention by the Labour Court, to which the Union has acceded by accepting an invitation to talks tomorrow.
