July 15th, 2009.
The Technical Engineering and Electrical Union has welcomed the decision of the Electrical Contractors Association to accept the Labour Court Recommendation to resolve the electricians’ dispute. The Recommendation provides for pay increases of 4.9 per cent in two phases of 2.5 per cent from September 1st and 2.4 per cent from January 1st, as well as continued commitment by all parties to the Registered Employment Agreement (REA) for the industry.
The AECI, which is the other contractors’ association that is a party to the REA, has yet to decide its position. The TEEU executive will be meeting Thursday evening to review the situation.
