IBEC creating climate of fear and ESB using misinformation TEEU says IBEC seeking to create a climate of fear to divide workers
The Technical Engineering and Electrical Union says IBEC’s statement today on the electrical contracting dispute is trying to create a climate of fear and divide workers.
"IBEC is belatedly waking up to the fact that our industrial action that has been repeatedly deferred for over a year to allow for negotiations to take place is having a serious impact on some of its members, General Secretary Designate of the TEEU Eamon Devoy said this evening. Rather than seeking to escalate matters further and cultivating an atmosphere of fear to divide workers, it would be better employed persuading the electrical contractors to engage in serious negotiations.
"Could I also say that contrary to some media reports we have not been served with any injunctions to date but, if we are, we will respond in due course. Finally, I understand the ESB is claiming it employs no electrical contractors on its sites or other facilities and therefore our members should not be picketing them."
"Can I reiterate that our dispute is with the ECA and AECI and our members are only picketing these employers, as they are entitled to do. We have pickets on Mercury Engineering and Hegarty Electrical at Moneypoint and on Kirby Electrical at Aghada. These pickets are not on the ESB they are on the contractors our members work for. Again, the dissemination of misinformation is no substitute for negotiation."
