The Relevance of Trade Unions in Today's Society.
Who has power and influence in the workplace today Management or Workers?
Unions
Management

In companies where trade unions are recognised the pay, terms and conditions of employment are agreed through a collective agreement in which all workers have their say and vote for or against any proposals that emerge from management. This is normally done with professional advice and assistance from a competent full time union official backed up with professional support from the unions head office.

In a non-union company or in a company where the employment relationship is between the management and a worker through an individual contract of employment then the power and influence rests with the management. However, management have no difficulty in being in membership of a trade union themselves such as IBEC, CIF or some other advisory body from whom they receive advice and assistance when required.
